The Wellington Town Crier

A very respected, successful businesswoman in the fine gifts industry asked me one day:

“Lori, what’s new with your Art?”

My reply was:

“A Horse Rescue Ranch saw my artwork & asked me to hand-paint a sign for the front gate entrance using materials that will survive the outdoor weather. The sign is coming out pretty and I’m just about finished, but I still want to help out more, for the horses. The ranch isn’t doing an opening reception for my sign nor a ribbon cutting or any press. How do I get the word out about these beautiful, gentle horses that need volunteers and funds to keep them safe and healthy?”

This wonderful woman who has pioneered a successful thriving business within the elite community of Palm Beach and has been interviewed in so many magazines and newspapers over many years in her career replied to me:

“Show me a picture of your sign. (which I did right away). “Oh my gosh, this is so sweet. Whatever city the Horse Rescue is in, send this photo in to the local newspaper and see what happens.”

I said: “Really? That’s it?”

“Lori, you have to try. Sometimes we all have to make our own dreams come true and not wait for others to make it happen for us.”

I took her advice, bypassed the horse ranch, & emailed a picture of my sign to the local paper. I received an email reply back within 24 hrs by this lovely writer Ellen Rosenberg who adores horses. We scheduled the appointment for the interview and Ellen made sure to tell me that even though she is interviewing me & will write an article, she cannot guarantee that her Editor will print it.

Well……. the following month the article not only got printed but also made the index skyline section of the front page and continued onto a 2 page spread inside.

It all begins with a creative idea. Just go for it!
